Artwork Introduction:
Cantonese Embroidery, recognized as one of the “Four Great Embroideries of China” alongside Su, Xiang, and Shu styles, is an embroidery tradition originating from the Canton region. Documented since the Tang Dynasty, over thousand years, it has been imbued with the distinctive maritime spirit and commercial ethos of the area. Particularly during the Ming and Qing dynasties, with Canton being the sole port open to foreign trade, Cantonese Embroidery emerged as one of China’s earliest artistic luxury goods to gain international acclaim.
